Patch Notes Version 2.3.0

26 January 2024

Pet System

It is now possible to obtain and raise Pets in Chronicles of Madrigal! Below is a rundown of this content.

New Gathering Node: Nettles

A new type of Gathering Node has been added for the Lumberjack Profession: Nettles. Nettles can be found all around Madrigal. Nettles is a plant that will give the following resources when gathered:

  • String, which is a material used for crafting Nets
  • Herbs

Catching Masquerpets

The Pet System introduces the ability to craft Nets of various quality, in order to catch Masquerpets roaming around Madrigal.
Nets of higher quality will require materials of a higher quality to craft, but will net a higher Catch Rate and increase the amount of Stats the caught Masquerpet will grant.

Once acquired, Nets can be equipped in the Weapon Slot. After that, they can be thrown at any Giant roaming around Madrigal to attempt to catch them!
Be wary however, as a failed catch attempt will result in the Giant not being able to be caught for 5 minutes. This means nets with a higher Catch Rate are very valuable as they can save a lot of time while attempting to catch Masquerpets.

Once a Masquerpet has been successfully caught, a Pet version of them will appear in the player's inventory.

Pet Properties, Rarities, and Stats

Each Giant Masquerpet will have a unique set of 3 stats among the following list: Attack, STA, Move Speed, Cooldown Reduction, Damage Penetration, and Critical Damage. The first stat will grant the highest bonus, while the last stat will grant the lowest.
The set of stats is defined by the type of monster, meaning all Giant Mushpangs will have the same unique set of 3 stats, itself being different from a Giant Pukepuke's set of stats.

The available stats can be previewed by hovering the Net icon alongside a Masquerpet's HP bar.

Once a Giant has been caught, the Pet's stats will be generated according to the available stats that the Giant grants.
Additionally, the Pet will obtain a Rarity between 1 and 3 stars. Rarity will be explained in the next section.

Pet Leveling

Pets can be leveled by defeating Masquerpets. The higher level the Masquerpet, the greater the amount of EXP earned for the Pet.
Similar to how player EXP works, defeating monsters whose level is lower than the player's will result in reduced EXP. Additionally, Boss monsters will grant a higher amount of EXP to the Pet.
Please note the EXP+% stat affects the amount of EXP earned by the Pet!

Once a Pet reaches 100% EXP, they will stop gaining EXP until they Level Up.
Pets can be leveled up by being fed a certain amount of Pet Food (determined by the Pet's level), which can be crafted using Berries, Fish, and Aetherial Essence. Pet Food can be also purchased from the Pet Tamer.

All Pets have a Max Level they can reach, determined by their Rarity. The Leveling Chart is as follows:

  • 1 Star: Level 20
  • 2 Stars: Level 40
  • 3 Stars: Level 60
  • 4 Stars: Level 80
  • 5 Stars: Level 100

Pet Breeding

In order to get the best Pet possible, selective Pet Breeding will be required.
This can be done by talking to the Pet Tamer.

There are a few requirements for two Pets to be able to breed:

  • Each Pet can only reproduce once.
  • Each Pet must be at the maximum level they can reach.
  • Both Pets must be of the same type.

Once these requirements are matched, both Pets can be slotted into the Pet Breeding window.
Breeding will create a new Pet, which will inherit properties from its parents:

  • Rarity will be determined by the Rarity of both parents.
  • Stats will be determined by the stats of both parents, rolling for each stat.

Quality of Life Improvements

We have added a few quality of life improvements to our existing system which is (currently) only used for Cosmetic Pets.

The changes are the following:

  • Cosmetic Pets can now be added to the Wardrobe for their model to replace the player's pet's model.
  • Pets will no longer de-spawn upon the following:
    • Using teleportation skills.
    • Using the teleporter.
    • Teleporting into another world.
    • Starting flight.
  • Pets can now be summoned while mounting and during flight.
  • Pets will now follow the player during flight, themselves gaining the ability to fly.
